About Toto
Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also acclaimed studio musicians with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The group took their name from the Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore all styles of music.
In 1981, Toto's third album Turn Back is a failure, but they rebound with their fourth album Isolation with two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour helped them become a household name all over the world.
After a short hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. It marks a step away from the ballads of their previous albums and includes some heavy rock. This album was their first to go platinum in North America.
During the recording process of the fifth album, the group loses its manager and faces financial challenges. They decide to change their name and create a new album with the new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, replaces Fergie Frederiksen as lead singer. Joseph is an easier frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.
In 1999, the band released Mindfields and embarks on an extensive tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they head to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993. This includes a cover version of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's performance in Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
Musicians
Toto is a rock band from the United States that enjoyed their greatest success in the 1980s. The band was formed by session musicians with experience and has sold more than 40 million albums around the world.
The first toto album was the self-titled Toto album, which came out in 1978. It was a huge hit that catapulted the band into international fame. Since then, the band has released 14 albums which have all been hits.
In 1984, Toto wrote their first, and to this date only, movie score for the film Dune. It was a massive project and the entire group was required to participate. Kingdom of Desire was another successful album. After a world tour, Bobby Kimball quit the group. He was replaced by Fergie Frederiksen, formerly of Le Roux. The band pushed forward with their fifth album, Isolation. The album contained a variety of songs, including "Stranger in Town".
After Isolation, 스포츠토토 사이트 (Totopia.Kr) Toto took a break from the spotlight and stepped away from the stage. This gave the individual members of the band the opportunity to pursue their own projects. In 1996, the band was reformed to tour and record an album. It was the first time all of the original members were on stage together for over a decade.
The next year, Toto toured together with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. This was the last time all of Toto's original members appeared on stage at once. After that, the group broke up again. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to perform a benefit show for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in more than 31 year that all of Toto's original members performed together. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
Tours
Toto has been one of the most loved rock groups for more than three decades, scoring huge hits like "Rosanna," "Hold The Line,"" and their 8X platinum smash, "Africa." With a wide range of influences, ranging from progressive rock to world rhythms, jazz and soul, the group continues to please fans with their energetic arena rock.
The band experienced several setbacks throughout their final times, despite their fame. In 2002, drummer Greg Phillinganes left the group, and keyboardist David Paich took a leave of absence due to health issues. Drummer Shem von Schroeck was brought in, but the band was not the same without Paich and Phillinganes. In 2008, Toto decided to take the time off from touring due to changes to the lineup and a disappointing series of releases. The group returned to the road in 2012 following the release of their album 40 Trips Around The Sun.
The album was a return to the band's best form, and the tour that went with it featured sold-out concerts in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was helped by the addition of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, both of whom had rejoined the group.
Toto's music is the same today as it was in the 1970s and 80s and is growing in popularity with each new generation. Their success has made Toto a permanent fixture of pop culture. Their live performances are always filled with energy and excitement.
